FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What kind of skis should I use?

Short downhill skis because they turn faster therefore are safer and what is recommended.

How do you stop from running into the back of the horse?

It helps to have strong skiing skills. Practice skiing before you try to Ski Drive. You will need to be able to maneuver and stop on your skis while skiing normally before you try behind a horse!

Is there more than one size SKIDRIVER?

Yes, there are two options for sizes on the SKIDRIVER. For horse sizes and up, the “regular” sized option will work, but if you have a donkey or pony, it is better to get the “smaller version”.

How do I size my horse for my Ski Driving Harness?

Closely follow the instructions on how to measure your horse from the harness manufacturer. There will be a direct link to Yonie’s Harness Shop. Remember to give accurate and detailed information as you place your order.

Will my horse need special training for Ski Driving?

Yes, your horse will need to have driving experience and skills. Practice with your horse. Consult with a qualified horse trainer to guide you and your horse through all aspects of driving.

Can I use either hand for reining on the SKIDRIVER?

Yes, depending on which hand is most comfortable and natural for you, use that hand for driving. You will be Ski Driving with one hand. The other hand is holding onto the bar.

How do I adjust the lines on the SKIDRIVER to fit my horse?

There are adjustable sliding knots on each of your lines on the SKIDRIVER.
Checkout our product page for a video explaining the process.

*Note* When using the adjustable sliding knots on your lines to get the best fit for horse, remember to first adjust your outside harness lines. This is where all your body weight will be pulling on your Ski Driving Harness. The reins/lines will be set so that when you lift up on your driving reins there will be the slightest connection. Remember that you are being pulled by the harness lines, NOT by the reins.

Am I attached to any gear or equipment?

No, you are in no way attached! Our gear is specifically designed and completely intentional, giving you the ability to let go at anytime.
